Bill O'Reilly stands up for Ellen

gaywrites:

The rumors are true: Bill O’Reilly defended Ellen DeGeneres against the conservative group boycotting JC Penney for making her their spokesperson. From SheWired:

Speaking to Fox News commentator Sandy Rios O’Reilly said on his show that he didn’t think boycotting a business over its hiring of a gay spokesperson was in “the spirit of America.”

“What is the difference between a McCarthy era Communist blacklist in the fifties and the Million Moms saying, ‘Hey, JCPenney and all you other stores, don’t you hire any gay people. Don’t you dare?” O’Reilly argued.

“This JCPenney thing is a witch hunt and it shouldn’t happen,” O’Reilly added.

Ellen proceeded to thank him on her show. I’m honestly so surprised by everything that’s happened in this saga.

GO BLUE! YEHAW!

GO BLUE! YEHAW!

When I came out a couple years ago (ok, I was pushed out by my ex-husband) so many people immediately assumed that it was a “just a phase” or a mid-life crisis. I’m not going to say that that doesn’t happen to people….in fact, I’m pretty sure it does. What I can say, without a doubt, is that it’s not the case with me. Just because I don’t fit into everyone’s typical lesbian stereotype, don’t think for a minute that I’m any less of one. In fact, at 40, I feel like I’m finally living my life as the person I was meant to be all along; finally happy in my own skin. Now don’t get me wrong, I can’t regret and wouldn’t change any part of my life; I have two wonderful kids and all of the bad years with the ex-husband only made me that much more appreciative of the amazing relationship that I have now. It took me a looooong time to fully accept and eventually embrace my truth - I (as most people who grow up in the church) had been bludgeoned my whole life with the skewed beliefs that are so common amongst the “religious” folks. Thankfully, I started doing some research into those beliefs. What I found was that God really does love me - just the way I am - and I’m not going to be going to hell because I love a woman.

Some LGBT reasons to watch the Super Bowl

gaywrites:

Super Bowl not your thing? Not really mine either. But Huffington Post columnist John Polly’s put together a humorous list of “gay reasons” to watch today’s big game.

Some of these reasons are relatively obvious - for instance, Madonna at the halftime show and handsome quarterbacks. But others take a little more research to figure out. For example, did you realize the Super Bowl is actually quite gay-friendly? Here’s reason #9:

Both teams this year hail from states where gay marriage is legal. And according to the gay sports experts at OutSports.com, the N.Y. Giants have sent representatives to queer sporting events (like the “Gay Super Bowl”), and Giants’ owner Steve Tisch released a video supporting gay marriage, as has former Giants superstar Michael Strahan. The owner of the Patriots has spoken at LGBT business and networking events, and players from each team have supported the NOH8 campaigns. Woo-hoo! Go gays!

Also, in a very cool move, fans in Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium will see a PSA created by GLSEN that features NBA stars Jared Dudley and Grant Hill and targets anti-LGBT language among teens. The PSA will be shown to the 70,000 fans attending the Super Bowl and to the 80,000 watching from the tailgating mania surround the place. Rah, rah, gay!

Not everything in this column should be taken totally seriously, but it’s still a cute, amusing take on today’s top story. Go football!

I’m sorry - I don’t remember asking for your label. I am many, many things and none of them, singularly, can even begin to describe me. I am a daughter, a mother, a sister, a girlfriend, a friend, a femme, a tomboy, a woman, a singer, an artist, a writer, a reader….and these only scratch the surface. I’m smart, funny, silly, shy, outgoing, loving, frustrated, trustworthy, ditzy. I change…all the time. If you insist on plugging me into a little hole, seeing only one part of me, you are missing out on so much. If you dismiss me because I’m overweight, or hate me because I’m a lesbian or love me because I can sing, you’re doing us both a great disservice. I deserve to be seen as the ever-changing person that I am - you deserve to get to know me….all of me.

I’ve been feeling extremely creative for the last couple months. This led to some paintings and drawings that I’m pretty proud of, but today I got bit by the craft bug. Wendy (my amazing girlfriend) and I went treasure hunting at Sally Ann’s and I found a book that was perfect for a craft I’ve had in mind lately. We stopped at one of my favorite places in the world - a craft store! - and I picked up a small clock mechanism. $9 and an hour or so later, I had an adorable desk clock made from The Book of Love and it looks great in my dressing room =) Now I’m on the prowl to find something else to keep me busy!

Things are finally starting to change but there’s still so far to go. <3
